Headline Speakers Revealed

SALTEX 2026 has unveiled its headline speaker line-up for Learning LIVE, with experts from UEFA, STRI, Agrii (Envirofield), SAPCA, LaboSport and the Football Foundation among those taking part.
The education programme, which runs across the Main Stage, Spotlight Stage and Community Sport Stage, will cover topics including elite sports turf management, major tournament preparation, technology, scientific research, water stewardship and grassroots sport.
Lee Guerriero of UEFA will open the programme with a review of the 2025/26 UEFA club season and a preview of the pitch programmes planned for EURO 2028. STRI Principal Consultant Greg Whately will also share insights into preparing playing surfaces for major international tournaments, following the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Technology will be explored by Dr Ruth Mann of Agrii (Envirofield), while STRI’s Dr Christian Spring will lead the European Turfgrass Society Takeover with a session examining the role of science and research in turfgrass management.
Water management will also feature prominently, with Tony Hanson discussing alternative water sources for turf irrigation, while Dr Kathryn Severn of SAPCA will examine the latest research into player-surface interaction.
GMA Grounds Manager of the Year 2026 Karl McDermott will draw on his experience across high-profile sporting venues to explore the importance of team culture and leadership, while the Community Sport Stage will include practical advice from the Football Foundation on obtaining machinery grants.
GMA CEO Geoff Webb said Learning LIVE had become “one of the defining attractions of SALTEX”, adding that this year’s programme reflects key issues including “major tournament preparation and climate resilience, scientific research, technological innovation, and grassroots facility development.”
SALTEX 2026 takes place at the NEC Birmingham on 11 and 12 November, with Learning LIVE sessions free to attend as part of visitor registration.
