RAPID PITCH UPGRADE AHEAD OF WORLD CUP

SIS Pitches has completed a major pitch reconstruction at Estadio BBVA, one of Mexico’s three host venues for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Monterrey stadium required a full playing surface refit ahead of the tournament, with the project delivered to a tight 10-week schedule.

Work began in May 2025, immediately after CF Monterrey’s domestic season ended. The job involved excavating the existing surface and installing new drainage, aeration and irrigation systems before laying a stitched hybrid pitch. Materials, machinery and personnel were shipped in advance to ensure the rapid turnaround.

The redevelopment makes Estadio BBVA the first major venue to combine three SIS technologies on a single project. A new version of SIS Air, featuring upgraded moisture and temperature sensors, was installed to improve grass health in local conditions. This was paired with the company's Aqua irrigation system, offering 35 individually controlled pop-up units for even water distribution. The pitch was finished with their Hybrid turf, installed using the firm’s latest X-Gen machinery.

The pitch was completed on 24 July 2025 and has since been handed over to the stadium’s grounds team, with SIS providing maintenance guidance. Initial feedback from the venue has been positive.

Operations director at the company, Carlos Reis, described the rapid build as “a milestone for SIS,” highlighting the integration of the company’s surface and management technologies to meet World Cup performance standards.
