COURSE SWITCHES TO BATTERY

Morley Hayes Golf Club in Derbyshire has said they have taken further steps in its environmental strategy by replacing petrol-powered grounds equipment with battery-powered alternatives from EGO Power+.

The move forms part of the club’s wider sustainability efforts, outlined in a formal report that includes goals around biodiversity, emissions reduction, and noise control. Grounds manager Mark Worrall said the new tools offer the performance needed for maintaining high-quality playing conditions, but without the environmental and operational drawbacks of petrol machinery.

Central to the switch has been the adoption of EGO’s Z6 zero-turn mower, which the club says has improved efficiency, reduced maintenance needs, and allowed quieter working close to guest areas. Staff also use the manufacturer's cordless trimmers, blowers and multi-tools across the estate.

The club reports benefits such as lower carbon output, reduced noise during play, and improved working conditions for its grounds team. The club's general manager Simon Garton added that the quieter machinery helps preserve the peaceful atmosphere expected by visitors.

The club’s example comes as more venues in the sector explore battery-powered solutions in response to sustainability pressures and rising running costs.
